Tangula was inspired by the idea of bringing luxury travel to the far reaches of China, areas that had been virtually unseen by foreign visitors or explored by only the most rugged of travelers. We have created experience-driven luxury adventures for a new breed of traveler, one who seeks authenticity and desires meaningful connections with the places they visit and the cultures they encounter. The name Tangula originates from the Tibetan mountain "Thang Lha" and after the same grassland diety known as the protector of this region.
Tangula is China’s first ever luxury train experience, using state-of-the-art, custom-built trains that travel to historically significant and scenic parts of China. The vision and development of Tangula Luxury Trains has attracted leading talent from the world of rail and hospitality. In addition, the project has brought together a broad coalition of stakeholders to support its vision including China's Ministry of Railways and Kempinski Hotel Group among others.
Tangula Luxury Trains is owned and operated by Tangula Group Ltd., a subsidiary of TZG Partners, a Shanghai-based business initiation and investment firm. Tangula Group's mission is to be the purveyor of luxury travel and hospitality to remote regions of China. With initial focus on journeys to Lhasa and Lijiang, the company is establishing a luxury travel brand that provides access, but also helps to protect the regions it journeys to. To this end, Tangula Group actively promotes responsible tourism, exercises a zero-discharge policy, and sources staff and materials locally whenever possible.
With Tangula Luxury Trains as an anchor, the Group's objective is to create a preeminent luxury hospitality company, and one of China's first truly global luxury brands.
